Give to the Costella Cannon Scholarship Fund

By: Jeanette Johnson

Hello everyone.

About eight years ago, my son, Stanley Howard, told me about the Campaign to End the Death Penalty and pushed me to get involved. So I started going to meetings with some of the other mothers, and I’ve been involved ever since. To this day, I’m grateful that we have the Campaign on our side. The Campaign means so much to me because when I thought that the doors were closing in on us, I heard that little voice inside my head saying: “Don’t give up, fight for what you believe in.” The Campaign was the voice on the outside when my son’s voice couldn’t be heard from the inside.

That’s why I’m asking you to make a donation to the Costella Cannon Scholarship Fund. Costella was one of the mothers that used to come to meetings with me. She fought for everyone on death row even after her son died of cancer while he was in prison. She’s gone now, but we set up this fund in her memory. This fund provides scholarships to family members and former prisoners to attend our annual convention in Chicago. Please help us reach out to more family members by making a donation – because we all need that little voice saying, “Don’t give up.”

As a mother, I thank you for your support and for believing in us.
