Witness to an execution

a national speaking tour

By: CEDP Staff

The Campaign to End the Death Penalty is launching a national speaking tour this fall to expose the execution ritual conducted every time a person is “put to death.” Those who have witnessed executions firsthand will speak, as well as former death row prisoners who faced their own executions. As Bill Babbitt, who witnessed his own brother’s execution, said: “As a former supporter of the death penalty, imagine my rude awakening and horror as I watched my kid brother die on his birthday at San Quentin prison in California on May 4, 1999. “I was left with blood on my hands because I went to the Sacramento police and told them that my mentally ill brother, Manny Babbitt, caused the demise of an elderly woman during a Vietnam flashback.“The fact that Manny was a Marine hero, suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome and was confined to a mental hospital did not make a difference to his political killers. The voting season was approaching, and Manny was easy to kill. I received an education on the death penalty the hard way.”Bill will be joining Barbara Becnel and many others as a speaker on the tour. Come hear these powerful testimonials and find out how you can become involved in the fight to end capital punishment.
