It’s The Same Mentality Hello, my name is Ronald Post, and I have been on Ohio’s death row for 17 years. Two sections of the February issue of "Voices from Inside" were Xeroxed and given to me. I would like to comment on "Angel," the person on Texas’s death row. I can understand his situation, as I have been in a similar one twice in my 17 years. I was a legal assistant and paralegal in the law library, where I was able to help my fellow prisoners file legal actions and lawsuits. I was put in solitary confinement in January 1999, and I stayed there until December 1999, in a 6-by-9-foot cell. I showered twice a week, but was denied access to my legal work. I got no mail and no razors. The most time allowed in is 180 days -- I went a little past that. Upon my release, most of my property was either stolen or broken. I was put in a cell with no heat, no running water, and was unable to flush the toilet for 10 days. I slit my wrists and tried to die. God saved me that day and gave me back my will to live. If you’ve seen the movie Shawshank Redemption, that was made at the "old" Mansfield prison. The "new" one is built on the same grounds, only on the other side. The point is that the mentality of the guards and staff are still the same, it’s only the prison that’s new. I enjoy writing, and since I have no one in my life other than an elderly mother who won’t visit, I have no one. Can you help me with finding a sincere friend?
